ALUMNI HOST STUDENTS FOR JOB SHADOW DAY

March 10, 2016

18 Manufacturing Connect participants from Austin Polytech had their first work experience in manufacturing today, hosted for a job shadow by nine manufacturing companies.  Two of those students, juniors Johnta and Devonta, both who just earned their first NIMS credential, were welcomed by Wm Dudek Manufacturing Co. on the west side of Chicago. They were pleasantly surprised to find that they were assigned to shadow two employees who know very well what its like for young person from the Austin community to consider pursuing a career in manufacturing: Javon Cheek, APA Class of 2013 who has been working as a machine operator for nearly three years and DeAndre Joyce, APA Class of 2012 who also has been working as a machine operator for almost two years. When we dropped by to see how the job shadow experience was going, Johnta told us “This is really interesting, I could see myself working at a place like this.  They [Javon and DeAndre] did it, I could too.”
