March 21, 2016 – As part of the Nabisco Layoff story, WTTW interviews Dan Swinney to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in today’s manufacturing. Dan identifies an issue not typically discussed, the “Succession-Gap.” Many privately-held companies are in risk of closing, and threatening the loss of good-paying jobs, because of lack of a successor to buy the company from the aging owner who may not have family who want to take over the business when the owner wants to retire. This is an urgent issue on par with what is known as the “Skills-Gap.” WTTW posted a clip of Dan explaining what he means by the Succession-Gap on their website.
