Former Senator Alice Palmer

After sailing through the Illinois House with a 79-31 victory, HB5062 was sponsored by Sen. Omar Aquino and sent to the Illinois Senate Education committee for review and debate.

Our Chicagoland Manufacturing Renaissance Council Legislative Committee went to Springfield three times to testify in favor of HB5062. The team was headed by David Robinson, MR Director of Communications & Organizing, Former Senator Alice Palmer, and chair of the Ministers for Manufacturing Committee, Rev. Anthony Haynes.

We couldn't have come this far without the fearless leadership of Rep. Mary Flowers, who first sponsored the bill in the house, and the vital strategic input from former senator Steve Rauschenberger, President of TMA, and former representative Paul Williams. We also owe a great deal to all the legislator who signed on in support of the bill.

As of today, the bill is scheduled to remain in the Senate for additional review during the summer after which it will be re-introduced with amendments in November. We hope the bill will pass in the fall and possibly lead to program funding in 2019.
