ERICA STALEY GOES TO SPAIN

The week of May 28th, Erica Staley was invited to represent Manufacturing Renaissance at the International Encounters on Vocational Training: Anticipating the Future conference in San Sebastián, Spain. The conference was attended by 1800 people from 47 different countries.

Manufacturing Renaissance was invited by Tknika (Tech-nika), an affiliate of the Basque Government, which governs the autonomous Basque region in northern Spain. Various presenters provided informative context for the implications, challenges and opportunities that “Industry 4.0” has for our education and training systems.

This picture was taken at the Tknika facility and it's a demonstration of how virtual reality tools can be used in training employees to perform a variety of new tasks on the job.

Along the way to the conference, Erica was able to spend the day with representatives from the Mondragon Cooperative Corporation (MCC). MCC employs over 74,000 people across 102 primarily industrial cooperatives. MCC is an inspiring case study in business, education and community development. Our Manufacturing Connect program is deeply informed by the Mondragon experience, along with the dual-education system of other parts of Europe.

Erica made numerous connections and gathered insights that she looks forward to sharing with our networks back home. Here's a very complimentary letter from the Basque Government's Deputy Minister of Vocational Education to Dan Swinney.
